Last week we learned that Jesus is God but in a body that we can see.  When we look at Jesus we can see what God is like.  So whatever Jesus says and does is what God is saying and doing.  And the good thing is that even though Jesus was born a long long time ago, what He said and did was so amazing that lots of people wrote it all down so that they could tell other people who hadn't met Him.  Like us.  Lots of the stories of what Jesus did and what He said are gathered together in the Bible. ( show the kids a bible ) In those days there were no cameras and televisions.  There were no phones.  But there were books.  So reading was the main way that people got to hear about what was going on.   Four of Jesus's friends wrote about Jesus - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  The books they wrote are called the Gospels and they tell us lots about what Jesus did from the moment the Holy Spirit visited Mary until after He had gone to heaven.

So what do we know about Jesus?  ( Use a nativity picture book/ puppets to show the story as we tell it or ask questions about the video)

Well, you will remember that Jesus was born as a baby just like you were.  He had a Mum and a Dad who were called Mary and Joseph.  His dad was a carpenter - he made things out of wood - like tables and chairs.  So his family probably weren't rich.  The gospels  ( the Jesus stories) tell us that when Jesus was born some very amazing things happened.  The first thing was that lots and lots of angels did alot of singing and shouting to tell people that God was being born in Bethlehem.  But the only people who were listening were poor farmers looking after sheep.  There was a really bright star in the sky which showed people where Jesus was born.  God was so excited to let the whole world know that He was coming to the world that he made a special star and sent angels.  But the only people who looked at the star and were amazed were some scientists called wise men.

So, when God came to show us what He was like He made a big fuss about it so that everyone would know.  But people weren't paying attention.  They weren't listening and watching.  So most people missed God being born.  And that's sad.  We dont want to miss anything that God says or does do we?

So just like the farmers and the scientists we need to be watching and listening so that we dont miss the things God is trying to show us.
