week 9 disciples

 We ae learning all about Jesus aren't we?  What have we learned so far?  Well, we know that Jesus is God, that He was born a baby just like we were and He grew up in a family just like us.  We know He was quite poor and worked as a carpenter with His Dad for quite a long time and then one day when He was a grown up He went to be baptised by John.   He met the devil in the wilderness and the devil tried to get Jesus to follow Him instead of doing what God wanted.  But Jesus said NO! to the devil.  He did what God asked Him to do - and now we are going to see what happened next.

Jesus lived close to the sea. Have you been to the seaside?  What did you do there?  Did you see any boats?   Where Jesus lived there were lots of boats because there were lots of fishermen.  They went out on the sea in their boats with big nets and they caught fish to sell in the markets.  People liked eating fish and its really good for you!   One day, not long after Jesus had been in the wilderness, He was walking down by the sea and He saw two men in their boat fishing.  They were brothers called Simon Peter and Andrew and they were working hard pulling in their nets full of fish.  Jesus shouted out to them ' Simon, Andrew, come with me.  Ive got a job for you to do.  Follow me and I will make you people-fishers'

Simon Peter and Andrew had never met Jesus before - how do you think Jesus knew their names?  Do you think Jesus knows your name?

Simon Peter and Andrew stopped what they were doing and went with Jesus.  If someone you dont know told you to go with them would you go?  No.  You should never go anywhere with someone you dont know.  But it was OK for these brothers to go with Jesus because He is very very special and He is very very safe.  So the brothers went with Jesus and left their fishing behind.   Jesus kept walking down the beach until He got to the next boat where there was a Dad and his two boys James and John mending their nets.  Nets have to be looked after and fixed if they get torn so that they can catch lots of fish.  So this family of fishermen were busy when Jesus came along.  Again He said ' James, John, leave what you are doing and come with me'   And they did.  I wonder what their Dad thought about that.  They left him with all the work to do!  But it was more important to follow Jesus.  When Jesus asks us to follow Him its always the best idea to do what He says.  Because we shall see that when these four brothers followed Jesus their lives got very exciting.

Jeus had four people with him now, Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John.  They followed Jesus because they wanted to get to know Him, learn about God from Him and see what He would do.   Jesus is still asking people to follow Him today.  He knows your name and He is asking you to follow Him. When He asks us, He doesnt walk up to us and say ' hello'.   He asks us in our hearts. Would you like to do what Simon and Andrew and James and John did?  Would you like to get to know Jesus and learn about God from Him and see what He is going to do in your life?  Because you can,  You can do that right now.

( if any kids want to then just pray simple prayer thanking God for Jesus and asking Him to come into hearts and helping us to follow him and get to know Him - dont forget to tell parents if this happens!)

(Week 12 Jesus teaches)

 Jesus came to show us what God is like.  He came as a baby and had a family because God loves families.  When he was little He went to church because God loves church.  Jesus had friends because God thinks friends are really important.  Jesus did lots of amazing miracles because God is amazing and can do anything - even impossible things.   But Jesus didnt just do wonderful things, He also told everyone what God was like. So what did Jesus say about God? Well, He said that God is LOVE.  ( 1 John 4:8)  God is made of love and He is where all the love in the world comes from.  Who loves you?  Who do you love?  Well all of that love comes from God.  Isnt that brilliant? Jesus said that God loves us more that anything but He is sad when we dont love Him back.   God is hurt when we choose to do what we want instead of what He wants.  Just like when our Mummys and Daddys tell us to do things, like brush our teeth...

week 2 - nativity

 Last week we learned that God is made up of three parts.  Can we remember what they were? God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit live in heaven which is a special place that we cant see.  We know it is there but we can't see it.   Can you see the wind?  No, but you know it is there cos you can see it blowing things ( use a windmill to demonstrate)   We cant see God but we can see what He does, (and in the past lots of people saw what God had done and wrote down these things in a book.  All the stories of what God has done are in the Bible and its a really good book to read if you want to know what God is like.   But God knows that its easier to understand stuff we can see so thats why He decided to show us what He looks like by sending the Son, Jesus.   Remember that Jesus is a part of God, but He is a part we can see!!!
